VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Wesley James is an active participant in OKC Beautiful programming, from picking up litter to helping plan events on our Grow OKC Young Professionals Board.
He began his involvement a few years ago. "I was introduced to OKC Beautiful by my friend and mentor Lynda Mobley," Wesley said. "She knew I was interested in environmentally friendly practices, sustainability and the importance of learning how to grow your own food. She invited me to the Fall Harvest Fest and I learned all about the OKC Harvest program. I knew from there it was an organization that was worth donating my time to. One of my first events was a park cleanup event where we went to a park I hadn’t ever heard of and picked up a ton of trash that day. I had a great time and met some like minded individuals."
Wesley enjoys spending time outdoors and appreciates the investment in parks and public spaces in Oklahoma City. "I love seeing the different parks and recreational areas that are being added and built," he said. "It's made Oklahoma City a great place to spend time in."
He spends his days as a Team Lead in Compliance Survey for Oklahoma Natural Gas, and in his free time, he enjoys taking his daughter Maggie to Scissortail Park, spending time with friends, and of course volunteering!
When asked why he spends his free time volunteering, he said, "Helping others and doing what I can to provide a better future for my daughter is why I volunteer."
Thank you, Wesley, for your service on our Grow OKC Young Professionals Board and for your frequent participation in volunteer service for OKC Beautiful!
