About the event

Join us for an iNaturalist training and nature walk at Martin Park Nature Center, featuring guest instructor Malcolm Zachariah!

iNaturalist is a citizen science app that helps you identify plants and wildlife, while contributing to biodiversity data. Anyone can use it and contribute to sharing observations of biodiversity across the globe!

Come learn about why citizen science is crucial, how you can participate, and get a tutorial on how to use the free app. The class will include a nature walk through the park, while identifying various plant and wildlife species.

The class will feature guest instructor, Malcolm Zachariah. Malcolm Zachariah is an OKC artist and scientist (B.S. Biochemistry, OU; medicinal chemistry graduate studies, University of Utah). Growing up, he learned how to press leaves for identification with his mom and enjoyed identifying unusual “hitchhikers” in his coral reef aquariums. As a researcher, he has studied bacteria and the genomes of marine organisms which produce unusual chemicals. Malcolm now catalogs cool critters at iNaturalist whether at home, at his workplace pollinator garden, or while traveling, with 257 observations of 184 species to date.

The class is pay by donation of any amount, and helps provide accessible environmental education programming to the community.
