About the event
The Oklahoma Conservation Commission in collaboration with the Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts (OACD) is hosting a screening of the documentary "To Which We Belong" on September 7th at Rodeo Cinema.
"To Which We Belong" showcases the transformative power of regenerative agriculture, a system of farming principles that seeks to reverse the damage caused by years of industrialized agriculture. The documentary introduces us to a pioneering generation of farmers and ranchers who are reimagining their relationship with the earth. By employing practices like no-till, diverse cover crops, and animal integration, they aim to draw down carbon from the air and return it to the soil. These practices mitigate the adverse effects on our environment, but also rejuvenates the soil, making it more productive and healthier.
These innovative methods are vividly illustrated in the documentary. No-till, for instance, leaves the soil undisturbed, allowing the previous season's crops to decay and serve as mulch for the next season, reducing costs and minimizing erosion. Cover crops are planted alongside cash crops to protect the soil, enhancing soil quality and biodiversity. Animal Integration, meanwhile, combines livestock and crops in the same area, creating a balanced ecosystem that is both cost-effective and produces a higher-quality product.
Following the screening, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a panel discussion featuring Greg Scott (Oklahoma Conservation Commission), Sarah Blaney (Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts), and Keith Berns (Green Cover Seed). This session is an opportunity to further explore the themes of the documentary and the principles of regenerative agriculture, offering insights and answering audience questions.
The screening is free, but those wishing to attend must RSVP by emailing Nicol Ragland (nicolragland@okconservation.org). Given the significance of the documentary and the post-screening panel, seats are expected to fill up quickly. Join us for an evening of inspiration, hope, and dialogue.
